Bartlett & Sons, New Bedford, Mass. ordering whale bone (for the handles), letters compare Polar bone, to Northwest July 5, 1853; letter requests Polar whale bone, clean, thick at 34½¢ per lb. June 9, 1853, their cutter discerns a difference in the bone, interesting insight into whale bone industry, scarce group, Fine to Very Fine. Estimate $200-300.
