U.S.; General Issues, 1866, 15¢ Black, Plate Proof Used on Registered Cover, #77P4, tied by cork killer, South Merdian, CT Oct 1, 1897 cancel, Bridgeport, CT Oct 4 1897 receiving cancel on reverse, "it is a genuine usage, but it is a genuine 77P4 plate proof fraudulently perforated", a most unusual and scarce item, Fine to Very Fine, PF (1987) cert. According to Michael Lawrence census, this is the only known 15¢ proof used on cover .
