Confederacy: 1863 Blockade of Charleston Letter, from John W. Coles, Asst. Surg., U.S.S. "Paul Jones", dated October 19, 1863, "off Charleston, S.C.", letter states in part "I was detached from the "N. Carolina" on the 8th of September and ordered to the gun-boat "Paul Jones", this vessel…is over 800 tons.carries a battery of seven guns…three refugees made their escape from Charleston last Saturday night. We took them to the flagship, Fort Sumpter looks very bad on the side opposite to Gillmore", great Civil War historical piece, transcript incl., Fine to Very Fine.
