Korea; Empire Covers and Used Postal Stationery, 1905 (Aug. 19) Cover to U.S., #19, 42, franked with Korea 1 chon Perf 11 and three 3 chon Falcons, tied by indistinct Japanese PO 'Unsan' bisected-circle postmarks, 'Unsan' Postage Due boxed handstamp alongside with handwritten indication of 5 sen due, 'Moji Japan' transit backstamp (Aug. 25). Illustrated in 1964 Zirkle handbook (page 99). Rare post-amalgamation usage of Korean stamps which, although withdrawn from sale on May 30, 1905, continued valid for postage through August 1909. Because the total franking of 10 chon was sufficient, the postage due handstamp should not have been applied, and was subsequently ignored .
