U.S.; State Postal History, New York: 1861 American Telegraph, red 1861 lithographed envelope with ornate design of Morse key and register framed by flags and flanked by telegraph machines, constellation of stars and lightning emanating from an eagle at top and 34 state or territory shields around edges, "Cambridge Livingston, Secy." and "E.S. Sanford, Pres." imprints, addressed locally with 1861 docketing on front, few faults on backflap, otherwise very fine. Sanford was a prominent express operator and was associated with Adams and Harnden, Ex Hahn, Born. Very scarce, particularly in red . Estimate $100-140.
