U.S. General Issues, 1855, 10¢, Type II on Cross Border Cover, #14, 3 margin copy tied to folded letter by Champlain, NY May 26 (1857) cds, to Montreal, backstamped Rouses Point, NY May 26 and Montreal MY 26, 1857, written at LeColle, Quebec and likely hand carried to Champlain, only 3 miles across border, here it entered U.S. mail, sent to exchange office and received same day in Montreal, Fine to Very Fine. Canadian mail in 1857 from LeColle to Montreal was not a daily service, thus the writer obtained speedier delivery by having letter mailed in the U.S. Estimate $150-200.
