Hawaii 1845 stampless whaler letter.
Datelined Lahina, March 5, 1845, addressed to New Bedford Mass with Ship and 6 markings, well written by an obviously educated man, interesting information about the natives and Missionaries; "When Cook discovered them the population was estimated to be about 800,000 now they scarcely number 160,000"… " it is the white mens curse, it is the rum and firearms and a hundred loathsome diseases"… " As for the Missionaries I hardly know what to say…they have not so much good", great Hawaii historical document, some staining but still very readable, important piece, Fine.
Estimate $1,000.
