U.S. Possessions; Hawaii, 1857, 5¢ Manuscript Surcharge on 13¢ Dark Red, #7, used, 3 close margins, "slightly oxidized ink, light abrasions", an extremely rare item, Fine appearance. Appears to be made by Honolulu Postmaster Jackson, who made a few surcharges, but left most of the work to his clerk, future postmaster general Alvah Clark, his neater "5" easily distinguishable from Jackson's scrawled open "5". APS (2004) cert.

China, 1895 Usage With Dowager 1st Printing, 3ca, 12ca on French Post Offices Cover, #18, 23, registered from Tientsin with red registered oval strike and 3ca ("defective perfs at right") and 12ca on reverse tied by individual blue chops, blue customs Tientsin JUL 3, Shanghai JUL 7 1895 customs cancel, approx. 5 days later "12 JUL 05" Shanghai cancel tying on front French Offices in China #9 overprint, to Germany, several other transit markings, 18 AUG 95 arrival Weilheim, opened at bottom, fantastic cover, Fine to Very Fine, Royal (2013) cert. New find, unknown correspondence .

Aerophilately; Rocket Flights, 1959 Point Mugu, Calif., Regulus I Flown, Ellington-Zwisler #24C1, May 1, signed by the Postmaster, on Official env. (137 flown), accompanied with defaced cancels on cards signed by the Postmaster in black (#14) and red (#97), 100 exist in total, also RADM J. P. Monroe letter to Commander Erwin R. Baker, USN, flown on the missile's 1 May 1959 flight, Very Fine and rare. Similar lot WITHOUT the cards realized $4945 in our 2011 auction., only five such defaced cards exist in red, which have never been seen before at auction .
