U.S.; Confederacy, Stampless, 1861 Steamer "General Quitman", Excellent red strike with ms. 1861 24-4 on 3¢ Nesbitt local letter sent within New Orleans, small repair top right corner, overall Very Fine. The General Quitman was built at New Albany, Ind for New Orleans ship owner, at the fall of New Orleans she was one of the last ones to escape, sank at New Texas Landing (near Morganza, LA) on October 23, 1868.
