Mexico, 1856, 8r Red Lilac, Quarter Used as 2r on Cover to Texas, #5d, tied to folded env., endorsed Oct. 11, 1858 by rare Zacateces (Schatzkes #1851, Yag-Bash #24) cancel, adhesive stained and frayed at bottom to Brownsville, Texas (no docketing), small portion of cover on front gone, important piece of Mexico and Texas postal history, Fine appearance. Liera (July 1979 Mexicana) stated 1st instance of "split" covers sent outside of Mexico (3 additional showed up after that), also documented in The Texas Philatelist. Mepsi (1977) cert. Reportedly 1 of 4 known (others not seen on market) . Estimate $300-400.
