United States, Covers, Naval W.W.II Armed Guard Sailors Correspondence, 260 letter and many corresponding covers, 1944 to 1946, the seaman, who was a member of the gun crew and who wrote these letters was stationed at Gunnery School, Camp Perry, VA in the summer of 1944, after attending Armed Guard School at Norfolk, VA in early fall 1944, he was assigned to SS Martin Van Buren, a merchant ship, on North Atlantic convoy duty; on Jan 14, 1945 German submarine U-1232 attacked Allied convoy BX-141 which incl. the Van Buren, which was badly damaged by torpedo fire, wonderful snap shot of this historic period, generally Fine.

United States, Covers, W.W.II Sailor Correspondence, 112 letters and corresponding covers from Boatswains Mate 1st Class, who was present at the attack on Iwo Jima and later the occupation, letters begin when writer was with Group Pacific 11 from Dec. 1944 to Mar. 1945, where he was attached to Navy 3150 (Navy Base Iwo Jima), Group Pacific 11 that was a Navy construction battalion that also repaired landing craft on beaches, it worked directly with the Marines, not the Navy, even though the unit was staffed by sailors, this unit was one of the first to set up command posts for the Marines, great historial group, generally Fine.
