U.S.; General Issues, 1847, 5¢ Demonetized Use on Cover, #1, adhesive largely torn away by New Haven postmaster and tied to cover to Berlin, New Haven "Paid" cancel and pencil "21" rate (demonetized adhesive applied to cash credit towards 21¢ rate as per redemption law that was valid only until September 30, 1851), "Part Paid" handstamp and sent via Bremen Mails, carried by Havre Line steamer Franklin. Ex Lipson and Conland. The only reported example showing redemption for cash .

U.S.; General Issues, 1847, 5¢, Pair on Steamer Cover, #1, full margins, on Steamer Hecla red double lined oval packet handstamp that entered the mails at New Orleans June 1850 and tied by their bright red grid cancels, matching "Way 11 cents" handstamp (double 10¢ rate plus 1¢ way fee) and ms. "Due 11" for clarity, upon arrival at Stratford, Connecticut, the amount of Postage Due was paid and cover remailed to New Haven as single rate with ms. Stratford Ct June 25" postmark and "Paid 5" rate, address additions and postmark additionally tie pair of stamps, cover edge stain at foot, a Very Fine usage, an extraordinary use and a surprisingly rare example of 1847 stamps used on a cover with packet handstamp .
